Star Deals is operated by the fastest growing company in the world, Groupon. After achieving great success worldwide Groupon was forced to operate as Star Deals in Australia due to an ongoing dispute with rival group-buying site Scoopon.
In May 2011, Groupon Australia/Star Deals acquired the Melbourne based group-buying site Crowdmass strengthening it's coupon business in Australia. Crowdmass was setup by 3 uni students and was sold was an undisclosed sum, although Crowdmass was not a major player in the local group buying scene.
